Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. This West Island, to those not familiar with it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently cited, however her short stay wasn't. Brugel was an aspiring young lady in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she was able to have. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." When I outgrew my male companions, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to take the step she wanted. The teacher recommended that she try out for a school production. She tried out and ended up playing the role of the main character of Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens drawing the most attention when she landed the role in the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
